The world of haircare can be overwhelming at times. For this reason, a lot of men ignore it. We just used whatever soap or body wash we had on hand. Well, the meme with the lion and his manly mane as a result of using body wash was a lie, and a lot of us bought into it. It’s okay, though. We still have time to fix those errors of the past.
Liquid or Solid: The Big Decision
Now, the biggest hurdle is deciding if you want to go with a bar or a liquid. While I am not a genie that can grant three wishes, I can help you with your desire to have movie star hair that you are proud of. Trust me, you deserve it after all of those years using detergent-based products on your strands.
At the core, liquid and solid shampoo is highly subjective. It mostly comes down to what you prefer. Some guys have a ton of Dapper Yankee soap in their shower, so they don’t have room for one of our shampoo bars, or they don’t want to mistake it for soap. While it would be fine to use a shampoo bar once for a shower, it is not suggested for long-term use, and a conditioner bar certainly won’t help. Also, shampoo bars cost more, so you don’t want to wash money down the drain, but if you do, then that’s your business.
Key Ingredient Differences
Without getting too scientific, the ingredients certainly differ. Solid bars are made up of mostly oils that you will find in soap, and they are made in a similar fashion, but with some slightly different ingredients. Liquid soaps consist of mainly aloe vera juice, water, and coconut oil.
Both of these cleanse in a similar way. However, certain ingredients may work better for your own hair, since everyone’s body is different. For me, the liquid works the best, but I have very thick, wavy hair. Seriously, a gust of wind blows, and it looks like I stuck my finger in a light socket. It’s the curse of Mediterranean hair. It is beyond dramatic, but it’s far less moody since I started using Dapper Yankee’s liquid shampoo.
Lather and Shower Enjoyment
If you enjoy a shampoo that lathers more, then I believe the bars are a better option, as the liquid feels a bit silkier to me. While the extra lather isn’t needed, some guys find it more enjoyable, and enjoying your shower is what Dapper Yankee is all about.
Ease of Use and Shower Space
Ease of use is obviously a huge topic. On one hand, using a bar gives you an excuse to buy a Dapper Yankee wooden soap dish, but the shampoo bottles are lower maintenance. The bottles look better in the shower, but all of that swag comes at a price—shower space, and sometimes you just don’t have the room.
Hair Type and Color Considerations
If you color your hair, a liquid shampoo might be gentler on your hair. Both of Dapper Yankee’s shampoo lines are formulated for hair, so neither one is just soap like you may get from other brands. However, the solid bar may yield better results for men who shave their heads or have short hair, but rest assured that you can safely use either one for both your shiny head and your long curls.
Eco-Friendliness and Travel Benefits
If you are someone that advocates for environmental causes and reducing waste, solid shampoos win in that regard. Plastic can be recycled, so you can lobby either way and it should be okay. I guess that depends on your personal preference as to which one is more eco-friendly.
It's much easier to travel with a solid bar, as it can be messy with liquid stuff. There is nothing worse than ruining your vacation with messy clothes, although they will smell amazing. Also, the TSA has liquid restrictions, so if you plan on carrying the bag on the aircraft, the solid will be much easier. While you’re at it, check out the solid cologne line to keep yourself fresh no matter where you are flying.
The Dapper Yankee Difference
No matter which way you go, your hair will look and feel amazing, your strands shimmering like the sun sparkling on the ocean with that same vigor you had in your 20s. If you are like me and have hair thick as a bear in the winter, then you might have been unable to find anything that works. This natural stuff works. My hair is straighter than ever without any type of treatments to it, and it feels silky and clean. I have literally never had hair this healthy in my entire life. I wouldn’t be here talking about it if it didn’t work.
Did the Greek Gods have detergents back in the day? No, they had nature. You could obviously say they just had good genes since they were gods, but do you honestly think that Poseidon wasn’t a fan of a sea salt spritz? Just as with a nutrient-rich diet, the power of nature leads to a healthier body, and that includes your hair and skin. It’s never too late to take hold of your health and be the best you that you can be. Start with those manly tufts on your head and work down. You will be able to tell the difference immediately. It’s one of the best choices I have made in a while, although having everything from the Dapper Yankee catalog might not be the best financial decision, it makes me happy, and that is all that matters.
